Ugarit

Ugarit was an ancient port city in northern Syria (near present-day Latakia) that existed from 6000 to 1185 BC. The city reached its heyday from 1800 to 1200 BC, when it ruled a trade-based coastal kingdom that interacted with Egypt, Cyprus, the Aegean, Syria, the Hittites, and much of the eastern Mediterranean. Ugarit later fell under Amorite rule, and, in 1185 BC, the Sea Peoples attacked Ugarit. King Ammurapi begged the king of Alashiya for help against the Sea Peoples, as all of his ships were in Lycia, but the city fell and Ugarit was destroyed.
