Uberto Alberti (22 April 1416 - 31 December 1476) was the Gonfaloniere di Giustizia (law official) and Executor of the Ordinances of Justice of the Republica Florentina during the 1470s. He was one of the best lawyers in Italy, prosecuting murderers, rapists, and the worst criminals, and won every case in spite of the fact that he was self-taught.

Biography[]

Alberti was a respected lawyer from Florence who had self-taught legal skills. He had a vengeance against the De Medici family because they evicted his family, and in exchange for their help, he joined the Knights Templar and helped them. Uberto Alberti made ties with Lorenzo de Medici to gain his trust so that he could wipe him out.

In 1476, he decided to take part in a conspiracy against the De Medici family along with the House of Pazzi, and he became friends with banker Giovanni Auditore da Firenze, who had been working with the Medici family. He became acquainted with his son Ezio Auditore da Firenze, who came to trust Uberto. Uberto was jealous of Giovann's influence over the Florentine bank, making him another target. One night, Giovanni and his sons Federico and Petruccio were arrested while Ezio was away, and Ezio gave Uberto a letter showing proof that they were innocent. Uberto told him that he would acquit them, and bid Ezio good night.

However, Ezio found his father and brothers on a gallows in the Florence town center, with Uberto denying accusations of perjury and saying that he never received a letter of proof. He declared the three guilty and hanged them, and ordered his men to arrest Ezio, who was in the crowd; Ezio escaped, seeking vengeance. With the help of a courtesan named Paola Ferri (sister of his family servant Annetta Ferri), he learned the ways of the Assassins Order and set out to kill Uberto.

Alberti's death

Uberto Alberti attended the Santa Croce cloister to watch the unveiling of Verrocchio's latest work, and one of Paola's prostitutes informed Ezio of his location. Uberto entered the gallery after arguing with Principe Lorenzo de Medici of Florence about his betrayal of the Auditore family, and he proceeded to have a conversation with some of his colleagues inside the gallery. However, he was alerted to Ezio when he saw him, and he was stabbed twice in the chest by the assassin's hidden blades. Alberti claimed that Auditore would have done the same as him to protect his loved ones, and Auditore claimed that he just had - by killing Alberti.
