Ubaydah ibn al-Harith (562-624) was a sahabi of Muhammad.
Biography[]
Ubaydah ibn al-Harith was a second cousin of Abdullah ibn Shaiba, making him an older cousin of Abdullah's son Muhammad. He was the twelfth person that Abu Bakr converted to Islam prior to 614, and in 622 Ubaydah and his brothers joined the hijra to Medina. Ubaydah was the second man whom Muhammad sent on an expedition, leading 60 men on a raid against Abu-Sufyan ibn Affan's 200 Quraysh men in April 623. He fought in the Battle of Badr against the Quraysh, and he was mortally wounded when Utbah ibn Rabi'ah cut off his leg. He composed poetry as he died, making him the first known Muslim martyr.
