82nd Airborne

The US 82nd Airborne Division is an airborne infantry division of the US Army that was an infantry division from 1917 to 1942 before becoming the first airborne division of the United States military. During World War I, it saw action in the Battle of Saint-Mihiel and the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, and it took part in the invasion of Italy in 1943, Operation Overlord, Operation Market Garden, the Battle of the Bulge, and the invasion of Germany uring World War II. Since the end of the war, the airborne division has seen deployments in the Dominican Republic in 1965, the Vietnam War in the late 1960s to the early 1970s, Operation Urgent Fury in Grenada in 1983, Operation Golden Pheasant in Honduras in 1988, Operation Just Cause in Panama in 1989, the Gulf War in Kuwait and Iraq in 1990-1991, the Afghanistan War from 2001 to 2014, and the Iraq War from 2003 to 2011.
