28th Infantry

The US 28th Infantry Division is a division of the US National Guard that has fought in several major wars from the American Civil War to the Afghanistan War.

History[]

The 28th Infantry Division was formed in 1879 as a part of the US National Guard in the state of Pennsylvania, and it saw action in the Spanish-American War, Philippine-American War, World War I, World War II, Gulf War, Kosovo War, the Iraq War, and Afghanistan War. The 28th was first sent to fight in World War II in Normandy in 1944, and it pushed into Germany, fighting in the Rhineland under the command of Norman Cota of D-Day fame. After the war, it served in some more conflicts overseas, with its most recent deployment being the Afghanistan War.
