USS Lexington was a US Navy aircraft carrier in service from 1922 to 1942. Built in Quincy, Massachusetts, she was designed as a battlecruiser in 1916 before being converted into an aircraft carrier in 1922. She entered service with the United States Pacific Fleet in 1928, and she was crippled by Japanese aircraft at the Battle of the Coral Sea during World War II. She was scuttled by an American destroyer on the evening of 8 May to prevent her capture; she had lost 216 crewmen, 17 SBD Dauntless dive-bombers, 13 F4F Wildcat fighters, and 12 TBD Devastator torpedo bombers during the battle.
