The Tyrrhenian Sea is a sea located off the western coast of Italy; it is part of the greater Mediterranean Sea. The Ancient Greeks named the island for Tyrrhenus, the mythological ruler who led an exodus from Lydia to form the Etruscans of Etruria in central Italy. The sea includes the islands of Corsica and Sardinia to the west, the Italian regions of Lazio, Campania, Basilicata, and Calabria to the north and east, and smaller islands such as Capri, Elba, Ischia, and Ustica.
