The Tyre headquarters bombings occurred on 11 November 1982 and 14 November 1983 when the Islamic Jihad Organization carried out suicide bombings against the Israel Defense Forces' headquarters in Tyre, Lebanon during the Lebanese Civil War. The first bombing occurred when 17-year-old IJO member Ahmad Qassir drove an explosives-laden Peugeot car into the seven-story building used as the IDF headquarters, killing 75 IDF soldiers and Shin Bet agents and up to 27 Lebanese and Palestinian prisoners being held by the Israelis. 27 Israelis and 28 Arabs were injured in this attack.
The second attack occurred on 14 November 1983, nearly a year later, in a nearly identical bombing. A suicide bomber drove a pickup truck filled with explosives into a Shin Bet building at an army base in Tyre, killing 28 Israelis and 32 Lebanese prisoners and wounding 40 others. The bombings were some of the first examples of IJO suicide bombings during the war.
