Tyrconnell, also known as Tír Chonaill in Irish, was a medieval kingdom that existed in Ireland from the 5th century to 1607. Tyrconnell, now known as County Donegal, grew to be the size of Lebanon at its height during the 16th century, and the powerful O'Donnell dynasty ruled Tyrconnell for its entire existence. In September 1607, Hugh O'Neill, Earl of Tyrone and Rory O'Donnell, 1st Earl of Tyrconnell both fled to mainland Europe after England conquered Tyrconnell, and Tyrconnell became a part of England.
