The Type 62 is a Chinese light tank that was operated by the People's Liberation Army from 1963 to 2013, with over 1,499 being built. The tank had a reduced main gun caliber, lighter armor, and less weight than the Type 59 tank, and it entered production and service in 1963. During the Vietnam War, China supplied Type 62 tanks to the People's Army of Vietnam, and China would later use the tanks against Vietnam during the Sino-Vietnamese War of 1979, during which the Type 62s suffered heavy losses due to their light armor. China stopped using the Type 62 in 2013.
