Two Moon

Two Moon (1847-1917) was a Cheyenne chief who fought at the Battle of the Little Bighorn in 1876.

Biography[]

Two Moon was born in 1847, the son of an Arikara captive of the Cheyenne Native American tribe. Two Moon became a chief of the Cheyenne, and he led his tribe at the Battle of the Little Bighorn in 1876 as well as the battles of Rosebud and Wolf Mountain, where he was forced to surrender after a crushing defeat at the hands of the US Army. Two Moon was friendly and had a kind personality, and Nelson A. Miles appointed him chief of the Cheyenne Northern Reservation after his surrender and subsequent entry into the Indian Scouts. Two Moon constantly sought to better reservation conditions, and he met with President Woodrow Wilson in 1914. He died in 1917 at the age of 70 at his home in Montana.
