The Turkish National Movement was a nationalist revolutionary movement in Turkey that fought to oust Allied Powers forces from Asia Minor during the Turkish War of Independence. Led by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the National Movement defeated Greece and was able to achieve the independence of the republic of Turkey, and the National Movement would become the ruling party of Turkey in the following decades. Unlike the Islamist Ottoman Empire caliphate, the Turkish National Movement advocated secularism and semi-fascism, and the movement had Ataturk and Ismet Inonu as its leaders. On 29 October 1923, the Republic of Turkey was declared after the dissolution of the Ottoman Empire, and the national movement succeeded in its goals.
