Tuadmuma, also known as Thomond, was an Irish kingdom which existed from 1118 to 1543, with Clonroad serving as its capital. It was the home of the Gaelic Dalcassians, and the kingdom emerged in the early 12th century following the schism of Munster into Tuadmuma ("North Munster") and Desmuma ("South Munster"). Tuadmuma came into the English sphere following the Norman invasion of Ireland, and the De Clare, Butler, and FitzGerald families settled in the region. During the 1540s, the O'Brien family submitted to English rule, ending Tuadmuma's independence.
