Tsengeltiin Jigjidjav (1894-22 May 1933) was Prime Minister of the Mongolian People's Republic from 27 April 1930 to 2 July 1932, succeeding Anandyn Amar and preceding Peljidiin Genden. He was purged in 1932 on the orders of Soviet leader Joseph Stalin and murdered a year later.
Biography[]
Tsengeltiin Jigjidjav was born in Halzan, Mongolia in 1894, and he graduated from the Finance Ministry's School of Accountancy in 1924. He joined the Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party that same year, and he served as accountant of the Mongolian Central Cooperative from 1925 to 1928, when he became the chairman of its general committee. In 1930, he was appointed Prime Minister of the Mongolian People's Republic, and Soviet leader Joseph Stalin and the Comintern had the MPRP embark on a rapid implementation of socialist policies in the republic. This led to several rebellions during Jigjidjav's rule, and Stalin decided to purge Jigjidjav, as he was blamed for the conditions that led to the revolt. On 22 May 1933, he was shot in his ger home on the outskirts of Ulan Bator.
