Flag of Bulgaria 2

The Tsardom of Bulgaria was a country that existed from 1908 to 1946, succeeding the Principality of Bulgaria and preceding the People's Republic of Bulgaria. With its capital at Sofia, Bulgaria declared independence from the Ottoman Empire in 1908, and the nation was nicknamed the "Balkan Prussia" due to being in a constant state of war. From 1910 to 1920, Bulgaria fought in the First Balkan War, Second Balkan War, and World War I, and Bulgaria would be demilitarized after its defeat in World War I in 1918. However, Bulgaria sought to reconquer lost lands during World War II, allying with the Axis Powers in March 1941. Bulgaria would not play much of a role during the war, as it was not formally at war with the Soviet Union; Bulgaria was officially at war with the United Kingdom and United States from 1941 to 1944. On 9 September 1944, Bulgaria signed an armistice with the USSR and joined the Allied Powers, but Bulgaria would become a communist state after the war's end, with the Soviets installing Georgi Dimitrov as the new leader.
