
Troezen is a small town and former city-state in the northeastern Peleponnese, Greece. It was founded by Pittheus, who unified the cities of Hyperea and Antheia into one city named for his deceased brother; Troezen was also the site of the conception of Theseus by Aethra with Zeus on the same night that she made love with her husband Aegeus. Troezen founded the colony of Sybaris in Magna Graecia in 720 BC, and Troezen was allied to Athens during the Greco-Persian Wars. Troezen became known as "Damala" during the Middle Ages, and it was the seat of a barony of the Principality of Achaea. In 2011, Troezen had a population of 5,486 people.
