Twelve Tribes of Israel

The Tribe of Issachar was one of the Twelve Tribes of Israel, named for Issachar, son of Jacob. The tribe occupied territory between the Jordan River in the east to Mount Carmel on the west, near to the Mediterranean coast, including the Esdraelon plain. The tribe numbered 87,000 mighty men of valor, and it formed part of the Kingdom of Israel and was numbered among the "Ten Lost Tribes" deported by the Assyrians in 723 BC.
