The Tri-State Area, also known as the New York metropolitan area, is a region that includes New York City and southern New York in addition to northern New Jersey and southwestern Connecticut. The metropolitan area is the most populous region of the United States, with a population of 23,723,696, and it consists of New York City, Newark, Jersey City, Yonkers, Danbury, Paterson, White Plains, Passaic, New Haven, Edison, Woodbridge, Bridgeport, Elizabeth, and other cities that are connected to New York via travel, communications, or culture, with these cities and town being known as "commuter towns" due to the ability of the workers to travel to a job in New York with ease.
