The Treveri were a Belgic tribe which inhabited the lower Moselle Valley from 150 BC until the Crisis of the Third Century. The Treveri lived along the southern fringes of the Ardennes forest, and they were of mixed Gallic and Germanic descent. During the Gallic Wars, their king Indutiomarus led a revolt against Julius Caesar, and they also played a major role in the Year of the Four Emperors. However, the Treveri supplied the Roman Empire with some of its most famous cavalry. The Treveri homeland was overrun by the Franks and Alemanni during the Crisis of the Third Century, and they later joined the Gallic Empire.
