Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol, also known as Trentino-South Tyrol, is an autonomous region in northern Italy, with Trento serving as its capital. The region, originally known as South Tyrol, was annexed from Austria-Hungary by Italy in 1919 following World War I, and it went from being a poor region to being among the wealthiest and most developed regions of Europe. In 2015, Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol had a population of 1,056,223 people.
