The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was a peace treaty signed between the United States and Mexico on 2 February 1848 to end the Mexican-American War. The treaty was signed at the Villa de Guadalupe Hidalgo, a neighborhood of Mexico City, which had fallen to the US Army during the war. The treaty led to the Mexican Cession being granted to the USA, and 90% of the inhabitants of the cession chose to become US citizens rather than leave for what was left of Mexico.
