Trapani

The Trapani crime family was an Italian-American Mafia family, based in New York City. The family was founded by Aldo Trapani in 1955 following Corleone crime family boss Michael Corleone's move to Nevada, with Corleone entrusting New York to his trusted underboss Trapani and his caporegime Peter Clemenza. Trapani expanded the family by taking over the rackets of the rival Tattaglia, Barzini, Cuneo, and Stracci families at the end of the Five Families War, and he was given the unique title of "Don of New York". In 1959, Trapani was killed by a Cuban sniper at a Havana airport as he assisted Don Corleone in his escape to New York, and he was succeeded as Don of New York by his loyal underboss Dominic Corleone, a cousin of the main Corleone family. Dominic, as an ally of both Don Corleone and Hyman Roth, expanded his empire with both new crew members and rackets, taking over Miami from Tony Rosato's family and the Granados crime family and Havana from the Almeida crime family and the Mangano crime family. The Trapanis came to rule over large empire, and the Trapanis merged back into the Corleones after their return to New York during the 1970s.
