The Tosa Domain was a feudal domain of the Tokugawa Shogunate that was ruled by the Yamauchi clan.
History[]
The Yamauchi clan owed its power over Tosa Domain to Oda Nobunaga, and then, after the death of the great leader - they gave Tokugawa Ieyasu support during the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600. Families who supported the new and victorious shogun in the centuries that followed fared rather well. However, during the Boshin War Tosa was mostly faithful to the emperor - mostly, but not entirely. Yamauchi Toyoshige insisted to the shogun to the emperor gave authority, avoiding open warfare, and thus further increase the power of the Choshu and Satsuma Domains. When it became impossible, Tosa sided with the emperor.
