Tomaso Moretti

Tomaso Moretti (died 29 June 1933) was the Don of the Moretti crime family from 1913 to 1933. He was killed by a bomb planted underneath his car in a plot by his lieutenant Carlo Falcone, who subsequently took over the family.

Biography[]

Moretti was born to an Italian family in Sicily. He immigrated to the United States, settling in New York City. In 1913, Moretti set up his own crime family, amassing a considerable number of members. The family grew strong during Prohibition, smuggling illegal alcohol from Canada. In 1931, after the end of Prohibition, Moretti was left devoid of a vast amount of illegal revenue, and fought for what little opportunities left with Frank Vinci, Don of the Vinci crime family. Their conflict resulted in a two-year mob war, resulting in much bloodshed in a little amount of time. As such, Moretti's caporegime Carlo Falcone turned his back on Moretti, organizing a deal with Vinci's consigliere Leo Galante to kill Moretti. On 29 June 1933, Moretti was killed after stepping out of his apartment when a bomb planted underneath his car by Vinci enforcer Steve Coyne exploded, and afterwards, Falcone gained control over the family.
