Tom Larson was a Union Army drummer boy from Baltimore who served in the 1st United States Sharpshooters during the American Civil War. In July 1861, he persuaded sharpshooter Billy Hazard to introduce him to Hiram Berdan, who let him join the sharpshooters after being impressed with his drumming skills. He was critically wounded by a cannonball at the Third Battle of Petersburg in April 1865.
