Tlepolemus

Tlepolemus (died 1183 BC) was King of Rhodes at the time of the Trojan War.

Biography[]

Tlepolemus was a son of Heracles and Princess Astyoche of Ephyra, and he fled to Rhodes after accidentally Heracles' uncle Licymnius when Licymnius attempted to break up a fight between Tlepolemus and a servant. Tlepolemus founded the Rhodian cities of Kameiros, Ialysos, and Lindos and became the island's ruler. As one of the suitors of Helen, he was bound by the suitors' oath to defend her chosen husband. He thus contributed nine ships to the Achaean alliance during the Trojan War, and he was slain by Sarpedon on the first day of fighting recounted in the Iliad.
