Queen Tiye

Tiye (1398-1338 BC) was Queen consort of Egypt from 1390 to 1353 BC.

Biography[]

Tiye was born in Akhmim, Upper Egypt in 1398 BC, the daughter of wealthy landowner Yuya and his wife Thuya. She married Pharaoh Amenhotep III, and she gave birth to Akhenaten, the father of Tutankhamun. Tiye wielded great power during the reigns of both her husband and her son; her husband built several temples, statues, and even lakes in her honor. During the reign of her son, she helped to maintain peace with the Mitanni, exercising a great deal of influence over Egypt's foreign affairs. She died in 1338 BC.
