Tinton Falls is a borough in Monmouth County, New Jersey. The area was settled in the late 1600s following land purchases from the Lenape in 1664, and James Grover founded the community as "New Shrewsbury". Grover's ironworks was the central fixture of the community, and, in 1675, Colonel Lewis Morris purchased a half-interest in the ironworks. Morris named his holdings "Tintern Manor" after Tintern Abbey in his homeland of Monmouthshire, Wales, and, in 1691, he left "Tinton Falls" to his nephew of the same name in his will. Tinton Falls was a part of Shrewsbury until it was incorporated on 15 August 1950 as "New Shrewsbury", and it was renamed to "Tinton Falls" in 1975 to avoid postal errors. In 2016, Tinton Falls had a population of 17,800 people.
