Timothy Joseph Hurley

Timothy Joseph "Mick" Hurley was an Irish-American farmer who lived in Munsons Corners, Cortland County, New York. A housemate of dairy farmer Abner Beech and the father of Jimmy Hurley, he first voted for Democratic presidential candidate Franklin Pierce in 1852 and would become a Copperhead during the American Civil War. In November 1862, election clerk Graves L. Hargis initially refused to accept Hurley's Democratic ticket despite Hurley presenting his naturalization papers as requested, but, after Hurley and Beech beat down three nativist Republicans, a different clerk reluctantly accepted Hurley's vote.
