Timothy Davis IO

Timothy Davis (29 March 1794-27 April 1872) was a member of the US House of Representatives (R-IO 2) from 4 March 1857 to 3 March 1859, succeeding James Thorington and preceding William Vandever. Born in Newark, New Jersey, he settled in Jackson, Missouri in 1818 and later in Ste. Genevieve before moving to Dubuque in 1836. He practiced law and founded a flour milling company near Anamosa, platting the town of Elkader in 1846 and naming it for Abdelkader, whom he admired. He later served in Congress as a Know Nothing-Republican fusion candidate, and he died in 1872.
