Thomas Veazey

Thomas Veazey (31 January 1774 – 1 July 1842) was the Whig Governor of Maryland from 14 January 1836 to 7 January 1839, succeeding James Thomas and preceding William Grason.

Biography[]

Thomas Veazey was born in Cecil County, Maryland in 1774, and he served as a Democratic-Republican presidential elector in 1808 and 1812, in the House of Delegates from 1811 to 1812, as a lieutenant-colonel of militia during the War of 1812, on the Governor's Council from 1833 to 1836, and Governor from 1836 to 1839, championing slavery, internal improvements, and public education. He died in 1842.
