Thomas Tudor Tucker (25 June 1745 – 2 May 1828) was a member of the US House of Representatives (DR-SC 5) from 4 March 1789 to 3 March 1793, preceding Alexander Gillon; he went on to serve as Treasurer of the United States from 1 December 1801 to 2 May 1828, succeeding Samuel Meredith and preceding William Clark.

Biography[]

Thomas Tudor Tucker was born in St. George's, Bermuda in 1745, and his family settled in Virginia during the 1760s before moving to Charleston, South Carolina. Tucker was an early supporter of American independence, and he served as a delegate to the Continental Congress from 1787 to 1788. Tucker opposed the US Constitution, believing that it gave too much power to the central government, and he served in the US House of Representatives from 1789 to 1793 and as Treasurer of the United States from 1801 to 1828. He died while in office in Washington DC in 1828.
