Thomas Pringle (died 8 December 1803) was a Vice-Admiral of the Royal Navy of Great Britain during the American Revolutionary War and the French Revolutionary Wars.
Biography[]
Thomas Pringle was born to a Scottish noble family, and in 1775 he enlisted in the Royal Navy of Great Britain shortly before the American Revolutionary War began. In 1776 he was promoted to post-captain, and he defeated a small fleet of United States makeshift ships under Benedict Arnold in the Battle of Valcour Island. During the late 1770s Pringle served in the Caribbean and took part in the 1778 Battle of St. Lucia and the 1779 Battle of Grenada.
During the French Revolutionary Wars, Pringle fought against the French and Spanish, and he took part in the 1794 Glorious First of June battle with the French fleet. In 1799 he was made Admiral of the White and in 1801 he was made Vice Admiral of the Red. He died in Edinburgh on 8 December 1803.
