Thomas Pakenham, 5th Earl of Longford

Thomas Pakenham, 5th Earl of Longford (19 October 1864-21 August 1915) was an Irish peer and British Army brigadier-general.

Biography[]

Thomas Pakenham was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1864, the son of William Pakenham, 4th Earl of Longford. He joined the British Army and served in the 2nd Regiment of Life Guards, rising to the rank of colonel and serving in the Second Boer War. He commanded the 2nd South Midland Mounted Brigade in Egypt and the Gallipoli campaign before being killed by shrapnel fire during the attack on Scimitar Hill.
