Thomas Lawrence (4 September 1689-21 April 1754) was Mayor of Philadelphia from 3 October 1727 to 7 October 1727 (succeeding Charles Read and preceding Thomas Griffitts), from 1 October 1734 to 7 October 1735 (succeeding Griffitts and preceding William Allen), from 3 October 1749 to 2 October 1750 (succeeding Charles Willian and preceding William Plumsted), and from 2 October 1753 to 25 April 1754 (succeeding Willing and preceding William Plumsted).
Biography[]
Thomas Lawrence was born in New York City in 1689, and he moved to Philadelphia in 1720 and worked as a merchant. He partnered with Edward Shippen II to found one of the city's leading firms, and he went on to serve as mayor for six one-year terms, as city councilman and alderman, and as a county judge.
