Thomas Kirker

Thomas Kirker (1760-19 February 1837) was the Democratic-Republican Governor of Ohio from 4 March 1807 to 12 December 1808, succeeding Edward Tiffin and preceding Samuel Huntington.

Biography[]

Thomas Kirker was born in County Tyrone, Ireland in 1760, and he was raised in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and moved to Liberty Township, Adams County, Ohio in 1790. He served in the State House in 1803, in the State Senate from 1803 to 1815, as Governor from 1807 to 1808 (after Governor Edwin Tiffin was elected to the US Senate), in the State House from 1816 to 1817, and in the State Senate from 1821 to 1825. He served as a Henry Clay presidential elector in 1824, and he died in Liberty in 1837.
