Thomas J. Mabry

Thomas Jewett Mabry (17 October 1884-23 December 1962) was the Democratic Governor of New Mexico from 1 January 1947 to 1 January 1951, succeeding John J. Dempsey and preceding Edwin L. Mechem.

Biography[]

Thomas Jewett Mabry was born in Carlisle County, Kentucky in 1884, and he later moved to Clovis, New Mexico, becoming a newspaper publisher. He went on to serve in the State Senate from 1912 to 1917, on the Albuquerque City Commission from 1926 to 1927, as district attorney from 1932 to 1936, as a state district judge from 1937 to 1939, as chief justice of the New Mexico Supreme Court from 1939 to 1946, and Governor from 1947 to 1951. He died in 1962.
