
Thomas Fitzsimons (1741-26 August 1811) was a member of the US House of Representatives (F-PA) from 4 March 1789 to 3 March 1795.
Biography[]
Thomas Fitzsimons was born in Ireland in 1741, and he emigrated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1760 and established a successful mercantile company. He served as a Continental Army captain at the Battle of Trenton during the American Revolutionary War, and he served as a delegate to the Continental Congress from 1782 to 1783 and in the US House of Representatives from 1789 to 1795. He was one of only two Catholic signers of the US Declaration of Independence, and he was a strong supporter of the US Army. From 1796 to 1799, he served alongside John Adams as part of a debt commission in Britain, and he died in 1811.
