
Thomas De Lage Sumter (14 November 1809-2 July 1874) was a member of the US House of Representatives (D-SC 8) from 4 March 1839 to 3 March 1843, succeeding John Peter Richardson II. Born in Philadelphia, the grandson of Thomas Sumter, he was raised in Stateburg, South Carolina and graduated from West Point in 1835. He served in the Second Seminole War before serving in Congress.
