Thillaiyampalam Sivanesan

Thillaiyampalam Sivanesan (16 October 1963-18 May 2009) was the head of the Sea Tigers, the naval forces of the Tamil Tigers militant group in Sri Lanka.

Biography[]

Thillaiyampalam Sivanesan was born on 16 October 1963 in Polikandy, Sri Lanka. He joined the Tamil Tigers in 1981 with Pottu Amman and became the commander of their Sea Tigers naval forces during the Sri Lankan Civil War. On 18 May 2009, Sivanesan was killed when an RPG rocket hit his armored van, killing him and LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran. This marked the end of the civil war, as the last LTTE commanders were dead.
