Thessalian League

The Thessalian League was a loose confederation of feudal-like-city-states in Thessaly, northern Greece. In the 5th century BC, the Thessalians were united as a strong force under King Aleuas, and Larissa became their capital. While Sparta established dominance in the rest of Greece, Jason of Pherae strengthened the league and allied with Macedon and the Boeotian League in 374 BC. Thessaly maintained its alliance during the Third Sacred War and during the Roman wars with Macedon, and, in 146 BC, the Romans razed Corinth to the ground and disbanded the Thessalian League, reducing the Greek states to provincial status.
