Theotokios Olaskos

Theotokios Olaskos (1060-1094) was a general of the Byzantine Empire.

Biography[]

Theotokios Olaskos was born in Greece in the Byzantine Empire to a noble Roman family, and he was appointed the Governor of Thessalonica prior to 1092. He was a superb administrator, although swift to judge. In 1092, the Republic of Venice sent Alessandro Selvo and 586 men (mostly mercenaries) to besiege Thessalonica during a bid to take over the former Roman Empire. With 165 men, Olaskos was outnumbered, and held out for two years before a Venetian assault captured the city and killed Olaskos and 93 of his men (33 Venetians were killed).
