
Theodore Fitz Randolph (24 June 1826-7 November 1883) was the Democratic Governor of New Jersey from 19 January 1869 to 16 January 1872 (succeeding Marcus Lawrence Ward and preceding Joel Parker) and a US Senator from 4 March 1875 to 3 March 1881 (succeeding John P. Stockton and preceding William J. Sewell).
Biography[]
Theodore Fitz Randolph was born in Mansfield, Tioga County, Pennsylvania in 1826, and he was raised in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He engaged in the iron and coal business in Vicksburg, Mississippi before moving to Jersey City in 1852 and becoming president of the Morris and Essex Railroad. He was elected to the General Assembly in 1859 and served in the State Senate from 1862 to 1863, and he also served as Governor from 1869 to 1872 and in the US Senate from 1875 to 1881. He died in Morristown in 1883.
