The Master (died 429 BC) was an Athenian slave owner and Cult of Kosmos member during the Peloponnesian War. He was assassinated in Lavrio in 429 BC.
Biography[]
The man known as the Master was born in 466 BC in the town of Lavrio, Attica, Greece. He eventually came to own a large slave workforce, using them to mine silver at the Lavrio Silver Mine. The Master eventually joined the Cult of Kosmos as a member of the Silver Vein, though once he realized what information he could ascertain from his slaves, he transferred to the Eyes of Kosmos. The influx of slaves brought in had great wealths of information, allowing the Master to communicate this to his superior, Nyx the Shadow.

The Master confronting Phaidon
In 429 BC, he came face-to-face with the renowned mercenary Kassandra, who had been hunting down his fellow "Eyes of Kosmos" members. She came to him to intervene on behalf of his slave Phaidon, whom The Master had promised his freedom if he could buy it; Phaidon had done so, but The Master pretended to not be aware of any deal. The Master told Kassandra that, if she wanted Phaidon free, she would have to kill someone for the Cult of Kosmos. Kassandra was taken aback by The Master's flaunting of his Cultist affiliation, and she deduced that he must know that she was the misthios hunting the Cult. The Master confirmed that, saying that he wanted to do so because Kassandra still could not kill him if she wanted Phaidon freed, as only he knew where Phaidon's freedom papers were; he also thought it was fun. Kassandra walked away to consider killing the target, but Socrates ran into her and told her that he had overheard the conversation, and asked Kassandra if one life was really worth more than another.
Death[]

The Master's death
Kassandra then walked back to confront The Master, telling him that she would not kill his target for him. The Master angrily retorted that Phaidon would continue being a slave for the rest of his life, and he promised Phaidon a "grand reward" for wasting so much of his time. The Master then dismissed Kassandra and began to walk away, but Kassandra grabbed him, turned him around, and stabbed him in the bowels with her Spear of Leonidas, killing him. On his body, she found a letter to the Sage Nyx the Shadow, unveiling the identity of the first Sage on her hit list.
