The Destroyers were a New York City street gang based in Coney Island from the 1970s until 1979. Their membership consisted mostly of African-Americans and white Americans. From 1978 onwards, they were intermittent rivals with The Warriors who had shared territory in Coney Island.
The Destroyers disbanded in 1979 following the death of their leader Virgil.
