The Thames Estuary is an estuary in England, where the River Thames meets the North Sea in between Essex in the north and Kent in the south. It has historically been a major shipping route, and it includes the ports of London, Sheerness, Chatham, and Thamesport and settlements such as Clacton-on-Sea and Southend-on-Sea. The region is also home to the "Estuary English" accent, a cross-pollination of London's "Cockney" accent and the upper-class Received Pronunciation (RP) accent.
