The Texas Senate is the upper house of the Texas State Legislature and the former upper house of the Republic of Texas (1836-1845). In September 1836, a 14-man senate was elected afterthe Texas Revolution, and it would become a 31-seat body of the state legislature after Texas' annexation by the United States in 1845. The senate's 31 members have four-year terms, and the Senate meets in the State Capitol in Austin.
