The Texas Rangers is a law enforcement agency in the US state of Texas that was founded by President Sam Houston of the Republic of Texas on 17 October 1835. The Rangers were led by James Bowie during the Texas Revolution, and Sam Houston would announce the official formation of the rangers in 1836. The Rangers fought against the Comanche Native Americans and marauding bands of Mexican Army troops until 1845, when Texas was annexed by the United States. Ever since then, the Texas Rangers have been a law enforcement unit in Texas, and it was assigned to the Department of Public Security; in 2016, there were 150 personnel in the rangers.
