The Temple of Amun was the principal temple of Siwa, Egypt, dedicated to the god Amun. The Oracle of Amun resided at the temple, guiding the affairs of the village. In 49 BC, Pharaoh Ptolemy XIII appointed Medunamun as Oracle in an attempt to consolidate his control over the remote town, and Medunamun turned the temple into a military base. In 48 BC, the exiled medjay Bayek returned and freed several prisoners from the temple (including moving the body of the dead prisoner Teremun), and he later assassinated Medunamun at the temple, ending his reign of terror.
