Benavidez hitting the pavement
Theodore Benavidez was born in the Dominican Republic in 1980, and he moved to the United States during his teenage years, settling in the Westminster Towers housing project of Spanish Harlem, New York City. He became a street dealer and thief, and he had links to Dominican street gangs in Washington Heights and the New Jersey-based Pegorino crime family. In 1999, Benavidez was arrested for heroin possession, followed by a 2002 arrest for grand theft auto and a 2004 arrest for assault. Benavidez operated throughout New Jersey under the protection of the Pegorino crime family, but relations had deteriorated by 2008, when he refused to repay a loan given to him by Ray Boccino due to his views that the American Mafia was dying out and powerless. Boccino sent Niko Bellic to the projects, and Bellic shot his way through several ND3 gangsters before finding Benavidez on the roof. Benavidez taunted Bellic about how the Mafia was finished, but Bellic shot him in the chest, and Benavidez fell to his death on the sidewalk 23 stories below.
